(TORONTO, ON) – Rugby Ontario is proud to announce that the Oakville Crusaders Rugby Club will host the Ontario Blues’ upcoming match against the Life University Running Eagles.
This fixture marks the Blues’ second match on home soil of the 2013 season, and will be held at Crusaders Park, Oakville’s home grounds, at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 23rd.
The Running Eagles have enjoyed a successful season to date, and are currently vying for the US Elite Cup. The club, based in Marietta, Georgia, will play in the Elite Cup Final on May 25th, squaring off against the San Francisco Golden Gate. Life paved their way to the finals by recently defeating the New York Athletic Club – the same club the Blues defeated earlier this month. The Running Eagles are coached by the American national team’s forwards coach Dan Payne, and have a number of players capped on the national team roster.
“It is great to have Life University here the same weekend as the US vs. Canada World Cup qualifier, as they will have players and staff involved in both matches, as we will," says Blues team manager Mark Winokur. “The Crusaders offer a great setting for a Friday evening game, and I am sure it will be a fun atmosphere for the fans.”
The Blues have started their season strongly, coming off a big comeback win over the New York Athletic Club on May 4th. The match against Life University is scheduled between two Canadian Rugby Championship matches for Ontario – August 17th against the Atlantic Rock, and August 30th against British Columbia.
“Life will be a good test for us, and will keep us focused during a break in the CRC schedule," adds Winokur. “They are a very good, well-organized side who beat NYAC in New York the week after we did, so obviously the teams will be well matched.”
More match details will be released closer to the date of the fixture.
