LINDSAY RUGBY CLUB AND ONTARIO BLUES ANNOUNCE PLANS FOR INVITATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL SEVENS TOURNAMENT
(TORONTO, ON) – Lindsay Rugby Club and the Ontario Blues provincial men’s rugby team are happy to announce details surrounding the Blues Invitational Sevens tournament.
The tournament will take place on Saturday, September 14th at the Lindsay Rugby Club, and will be held prior to the Blues’ Canadian Rugby Championship match against British Columbia (kickoff 4:30 p.m.). Round-robin matches will be played at four satellite pitches in the Lindsay area, with semi-finals and finals held at the Lindsay Rugby Club itself.
The tournament is open to 16 teams of high school senior boys.
National and provincial coaches will be in attendance, offering elite high school rugby players the opportunity to showcase their skills.
“This tournament is all about bringing young aspirant players into the elite arena,” said Lindsay club president Alison Westrop. “Coaches and scouts are always looking for upcoming players, this will give the teams an opportunity to play in front of these selectors.”
One of the coaches present will include Blues head coach Chris Silverthorn.
“We’re looking to identify the best athletes on the field,” said Silverthorn. “It doesn’t matter the shape or size of the athlete, as this tournament gives us the chance to look at a wide range of up-and-coming elite players.”
The final games of the tournament will be played immediately before the Blues/BC showdown.
“After the tournament’s final, there is the opportunity to watch some of the best rugby players in Canada play,” Westrop added. “With all this rugby in one day, does it get any better?”
The cost per 12-man team is $180, which includes a ticket to the Blues/BC match.
“This is a big venue in a smaller town, and it will become a big event. I’m expecting a crowd of at least 1,200,” said Silverthorn. “The Blues will benefit from playing in front of a very vocal crowd of family, friends, and supporters.”
Interested teams are urged to contact the Lindsay Rugby Club at firstname.lastname@example.org
Further details, including ticketing information, prizing, and CRC match information will be released closer to the date of the tournament.
