ONTARIO JUNIOR STORM 7’S RUGBY
New in 2011
7’s rugby is now an official Olympic sport beginning with the 2016 Games in Rio.
7’s rugby is high speed and exciting for both players and spectators. Elite 7’s players must have excellent speed and agility and strong decision-making and ball-handling skills.
Rugby Canada and Rugby Ontario are focused on developing 7’s players as part of long-range planning for competitive opportunities between now and 2016.
Many of Canada’s future Olympians will be identified from athletes who are presently between ages 15 and 19, many of whom are currently playing high school rugby.
In 2011, Rugby Ontario is launching a new junior 7’s development program.
The 2011 Ontario Junior Storm 7’s Program will have sessions at Oakville Crusaders on:
Sunday, August 7th (8am – 12noon)
Sunday, August 28th (9am – 4pm)
Player fees will be minimal.
The program will focus on game strategies, understanding 7’s laws and elite athlete lifestyles. Each day will include some competitive opportunities and post-game analysis.
Participation in the program is open to the 2011 Junior Storm U16, U17 and U18, 15-A-Side players. Athletes identified at the Junior Storm final try-outs on June 19th at Crusaders Park, and throughout the 2011 high school and club seasons will also be invited to participate. Commitment of all players to Junior Storm 7’s Rugby must be made by July 3rd.
Coaches interested in opportunities in this program should contact the Convener Sonia Sennik and copy Rugby Ontario Technical Director Andrew Hall.
