2012/13 OAAP Selection Criteria

Rugby Ontario and the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport have released the 2012/13 selection criteria for the 2012/13 cycle.

Key information:

Rugby Ontario is a Quest for Gold Sport, by virtue of the following two competitions:

1 - Olympics - 7's
2 - Ontario Summer Games - 7's

This means that to be an OAAP Carded athlete, you must be considered a 7's player.

Athletes wishing to be selected for Ontario Carding must meet the following two criteria before the athlete is eligible for carding:

1. The player must have been selected into a Rugby Ontario Representative Squad in 2012 (15's or 7's).
Exception – If the player could not financially commit to a Ontario Representative Program however did play for a Rugby Canada Team in 2012. Players must demonstrate documented evidence of communication to Rugby Ontario for this exception.

2. The player must have been identified for inclusion in Rugby Canada Programming in 2012/13 through the recognised pathways (detailed in the Selection Document).

Players who meet the above two criteria will be ranked and selected for Ontario Carding based on the following:

1. The player must be ranked in the Top 13 of the Rugby Canada Ranked Depth Chart of Ontario Sevens (7's) Players as of 13th December 2012 for final consideration.

* The Rugby Canada Ranked Depth Chart of Ontario Sevens Players is completed at the discretion of the Rugby Canada High Performance Staff.

Quest for Gold - Ontario Athlete Assistance Program

Quest for Gold – Ontario Athlete Assistance Program 2012-2013 (OAAP) is funded by the Government of Ontario, through the Ministry Tourism, Culture and Sport (MTCS)

The overarching goal of the Quest for Gold – OAAP is directly related to the Enhanced Excellence goals of the Canadian Sport Policy– to improve the performance and number of Ontario athletes performing at the national and international level; thereby contributing to the improved performance of Canada at international competitions.

The program will provide direct financial assistance to Ontario junior-aged athletes through an “Ontario Card” designation.  “Junior-aged athlete” is defined as those athletes who fall within the eligible age range for the Canada Games - 11 to 22 years of age

The intent of the OAAP is to provide funding to individual athletes based on their demonstrated commitment to high performance sport, allowing them to pursue athletic excellence at the highest levels of national and international competition

The exact level of funding for the 2012-2013 carding year will be determined by the MHPS after the total number of athletes nominated for Ontario Card status has been determined.  Funding will be released prior to March 31, 2012.
