Highway to High Performance will ensure a development pathway of quality identification and coaching for future Olympians and international competitors designed specially to meet the needs of Ontario athletes. 

It will ensure that those who will progress to the Train to Compete and Train to Preform stages of Long Term Rugby Development (LTRD) are identified and given proper quality development opportunities



    • Target talent identification pool will consist of approximately 500 male and female athletes from across Ontario born in 1995 and 1996 cohort (16 and 17)


    • Talent identified Ontario athletes that are selected to be in regional based academies teams that will play in the 2012 Ontario Summer Games will be those who score the best by Rugby Canada Sevens Player Analysis and Selection Matrix. This matrix is designed to address key performance indicators outlines in mental, physical (fitness testing scores), technical, tactical and lifestyle requirements specific to Sevens athletes that compete at the highest levels of competition  


    • Input on selection to the regional Sevens Academies that will compete at 2012 Ontario Summer Games will also come from Rugby Canada High Performance Coaches, Rugby Ontario Technical Department and Academy Team Ontario coaches


    • The total number of Ontario athletes required for academy teams to compete in the 2012 Ontario Summer Games is 192, 96 males and 96 females (an academy team = 12 athletes) 


    • These 192 Ontario athletes will be regionally based in:
      • Hamilton (48 - 24 male 24 female)
      • Toronto (48 - 24 male 24 female)
      • Ottawa (48 - 24 male 24 female)
      • London (48 - 24 male 24 female)
