McCormick Cup & Playoff format 2009 |

McCormick Cup 2009 format:
For the McCormick Cup 2009 playoff draw, SIXTEEN teams will be invited the enter a three
game round-robin entry competition through September. Teams will be divided into FOUR
groups of four teams each, playing each of the other three teams in their group on Sat.
Sept. 12, and the weekends of Sept. 19/20 & 26/27. The local Americas Cup games on
Sept. 19 and 26th at Fletcher's Fields will affect the schedule on those last two Saturdays.
From those FOUR groups, the top TWO teams from each group will be included in the eight
team McCormick Cup championship quarter-final round on Sat. October 3rd.- - - - - - - - -
Second Tier 2009 format:
A second pool of teams will play the
same format as above, playing three teams in their group on Sat. Sept.
12, and the weekends of Sept. 19/20 & 26/27.
At the end of this round-robin (end of Sept.) the top EIGHT teams
will combine with the lower eight from the group above and play in a knock-out Second
Tier Cup through the remaining weeks in October.
There will be no consolation round after the Oct. 3rd
round, in either competition, as that is where most of the defaulted games have appeared
in the past.
