Ten Universities and four junior provincial teams descended on Kingston's 1000 Island Sportsplex for the Eastern 7s tournament this past weekend. The University division was divided into two pools of five, in a two day event. Concordia and Ottawa would battle it out in the final, where the Stingers would take home the Cup by a score of 25-5.

The junior division was comprised of two Ontario Blues U18 girls teams, team Quebec, and the Canada Sevens Academy (CSA).

After only one training camp, the U18 Blues were looking sharp in their first competition together. The two squads would meet each other in the semi final. In a back and forth affair, Ontario 1 would squeak past Ontario 2 by a score of 20-15.

The final saw Ontario 1 in a clinical performance beat Quebec 20-5. While Ontario 2 would finish the tournament with their best performance of the weekend, taking the Bronze 20-0 over the CSA team.

"The girls are coming together very nicely. They're trusting in the process that the coaches have implemented and playing some really nice 7s." Remarked Blues head coach Ian Fitzgerald.

Moving forward, both Ontario squads will continue their preparations for the National 7s championships held in Burnaby, March 9-11 during the Vancouver 7s. While many of the University teams will also be heading out west for their own National Championships the following week held in Langford.

"Special thanks goes out to the Canadian Rugby Foundation, Rugby Canada, and Rugby Ontario for all of their support in making this event a huge success," noted Fitzgerald.
