Blues Sr. Men 'A': EORU Selects defeat Blues A in Burlington

(BURLINGTON, ON) - The Blues Sr. Men's 'A' side welcomed the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union (EORU) Selects to Burlington Rugby Football Club this past weekend. The EORU Selects defeated the Blues development side 41-31 in a high-scoring affair.

The Ontario Blues 'A' side is made up of Senior Men's players who are in the Blues system. Matches like this give these players further competition opportunities in order to develop their skills and provide further high-level playing experience.

The EORU Selects team is comprised of some of the top male players from the Eastern Ontario region. This match provides high-level competition for the players and showcases talent from the Eastern Ontario region to the provincial program. Two players from EORU will be suiting up for the Blues 'A' side in their next match against Atlantic Rock 'A'. Rhys Davies (Kingston Panthers) and Nick Delallo (Bytown Blues) have both been informed of their selection.

At the beginning of the match, it was obvious that the EORU Selects were providing strong competition for the Blues 'A' team. EORU came out to an early lead of 12-0, after a strong offensive display.

The Blues did not let the early defecit hinder their efforts, as they scored two quick tries to tie the game up at 12. It was not enough though, as the EORU Selects doubled their lead before half, punching in two tries before the 40-minute mark. At half-time, EORU led 24-12.

The Blues 'A' side put on a strong performance in the second half, clawing back to take a 31-29 lead with 15 minutes to play in the match, but the EORU Selects defensive presence was strong, forcing multiple turnovers and securing a 41-31 lead with two late tries.

The Ontario Blues 'A' side will play Atlantic Rock 'A' on Friday, June 30 2017 at Lindsay Rugby Football Club. Kickoff is at 6:30pm ET.
