U20 Blues: Ontario split two games at Eastern Canada Championship

(WINDSOR, NS) - The Ontario Blues Under-20 Women’s Provincial team flew out East to Nova Scotia where they will be competing in the 2017 Eastern Canada Rugby Championships. On July 11,  the women arrived in Windsor, where they will be representing the province of Ontario in games against the Under-20 Nova Scotia Keltics and Rugby Quebec Under-20 Women. In a battle of the East, Ontario looks to capture Canada’s Eastern Rugby Championship on Nova Scotia soil.

Prior to round robin action commencing on July 14, the Ontario Blues took the field in pre-tournament action against the Nova Scotia Keltics Senior Women in a controlled scrimmage. The ladies used this exhibition game as a warm up test to come together as a team and take on the host province’s Senior Women’s squad. The women had one more opportunity to set things straight in game two of pre-tournament action as they took on the tournament host and Eastern rival, Nova Scotia’s Under-20 Women. The Blues came out on top with a well deserved victory, beating the Keltics by a score of 36-5.

As the tournament kicks off on Friday July 14, each province will play a single round robin tournament style. This will then determine a champion, based on a points system.

The pressure is on for all teams competing for the championship as Rugby Canada’s U20 head coach, Jen Boyd will be in Windsor for the tournament. This will create a development opportunity for the Under-20 women and provide players with a chance to be nationally identified by Rugby Canada.

UPDATE (July 14, 2017): The U20 Blues won their first match vs. Quebec by a score of 30-10. A close game through 70 minutes, the Blues added three late tries to take the game. They play Nova Scotia on Saturday at 2pm ET.

UPDATE (July 16, 2017): The U20 Blues met a strong Nova Scotia side on Saturday, losing a tough second match of the competition 34-26. Nova Scotia went on to win the gold medal on Sunday with a win over Quebec.
