Ontario Blues - U19 Men and Sr. Women Game 2 Recap

U19 Blues Game 2 vs. Alberta Wolf Pack

The U19 Blues started off Ontario's second day of competition with a match against the Alberta Wolf Pack U19s. Although the Blues pulled ahead to an early 21-0 lead, they let Alberta claw back late in the second half. The Wolf Pack came to within two points of Ontario's U19s, but the Blues offense late in the game resulted in their second win of the tournament. The Blues defeated the Wolf Pack 26-19.

In the first twenty minutes, it was all Ontario, as the Blues put up 21 points off of tries from Aidan Foley, Jack McRogers and Jack Shaw. Callum Tam converted on two of his three attempts.

The Wolf Pack did not let the Blues early offense get to them, though as they began picking away at the Ontario lead late in the first half. Tries from David Hoang and Sam Ibbotson and two converts from Thomas Burton brought the Pack within seven points. Blues led 21-14 at the half.

The second half saw more offense from Alberta as Alex Pipchuck punched one in for Alberta, bringing them within two points.

That is as close as the Wolf Pack would get though as the Blues added some insurance with an Evan Whiteford try. Final score of the match was Blues 26 - Wolf Pack 19.

The Ontario U19 Blues booked their spot in the semi-finals with the win over Alberta. They will meet host side Atlantic Rock in the finals at 11:00am ET.

Sr. Women Game 2 vs. Quebec

The Senior Women followed up the U19 Blues in similar fashion. The Women played a strong Quebec side. Both teams had defeated Nova Scotia in their first games, by large margins (Quebec 60-7; Ontario 57-0). The Blues continued their defensively-sound ways against Quebec, shutting out their Eastern rivals 15-0.

The match started with Quebec putting together strong offensive phases and pinning the Blues deep in their zone. The Blues defense didn't budge, though and resulting offensive pressure led to a try by Captain Emily Barber. Lauren McEwen successfuly converted the try.

Shortly thereafter, McEwen notched three points for the Blues on a penalty kick. The Blues led 10-0 at halftime.

The second half was much of the same for the Blues, as they continued to hold off a surging Quebec offense. An insurance marker was added by Zana Everett, bringing the Blues' lead to 15-0.

Quebec continued to try to get on the board late in the game, but the last-ditch effort was stopped by Ontario's strong defensive stance. The final score of the match was 15-0.

The Ontario Blues Senior Women will play the Britis h Columbia Bears in Game 3 of their Canadian Rugby Championship campaign at 3:00pm ET.
