“We are extremely excited about this year’s edition of the Magnificent Sevens Festival,” said Rugby Ontario Chief Executive Officer Mike Brown. “Last year’s revival of the tournament was a huge success and we are looking to build off that. The move to the fall sevens season will help to bolster the talent pool and ensure this event continues to display some of the top sevens talent in North America.”

Once considered one of North America’s most prestigious rugby sevens competitions, the Magnificent Sevens was a perennial highlight on the Ontario rugby calendar, running annually from 1954 until 2004. While originally serving a competition solely for senior men’s sevens teams, the tournament evolved to become a multi-divisional rugby festival, featuring senior women’s, junior men’s and junior women’s sides. As the tournament grew throughout the 1960s, it was not uncommon to see entrants travel from across Canada, the United States, Europe, South America, Australia and New Zealand to participate.

With the registration window now open, Rugby Ontario is asking all interested teams to register early to ensure their place. Club and non-club teams (including schools and academies) will be welcome to register for the tournament, as well as out-of-province and international touring sides. Teams will be registered on a first-come, first-served basis, as divisional spots are limited. Head to for registration information.

Rugby Ontario is also pleased to be teaming up with our registration and hotel partner RoomRoster to offer all tournament teams and players the opportunity to stay at area hotels for special discounted rates. More than a dozen hotels have joined the list of official Mag Sevens hotels, with some located in Markham (for those wanting to be closer to Fletcher’s Fields), while others are located in downtown Toronto (for those wanting to stay and experience Ontario’s capital city).

Further tournament details will be released in the coming weeks.

Details surrounding the Junior Club 7's Provincial Championship eligibility requirements will be announced in the coming weeks.

Once considered one of North America’s foremost rugby sevens competitions, the Magnificent Sevens tournament is Ontario’s biggest rugby sevens festival, featuring 120+ teams.

Running annually from 1954-2004, the Magnificent Sevens competition returned in 2016 with much success. Now in its second revived season, the tournament has shifted to the fall sevens season.
