Saracens win Ontario Women's League 1st and 2nd Cup

(MARKHAM, ON) - This past weekend saw two strong clubs battle it out in both the Ontario Women's League firsts and seconds Championships. The Aurora Barbarians and the Toronto Saracens were represented in both finals and the two games proved their supremacy in Ontario's provincial women's rugby league. The Toronto Saracens won both finals games. The Saracens seconds defeated the Barbarians seconds by a score of 24-12, while the Saracens firsts won by a score of 44-26.

With the OWL Cup win, the Toronto Saracens firsts completed a perfect season. They took home both the league and cup trophy. The Saracens seconds finish in second place on the season and came out victorious in the Cup game. Congratulations to the Toronto Saracens on a successful season!

OWL 2 Cup Recap - Saturday, August 19 - 11:30am ET

In the OWL 2 final, it was a back and forth contest between the top two teams. The Saracens opened up the scoring as Briana Lesley-Joachim got the ball over the line, but the Barbarians quickly replied with a score of their own from Erin Roberts. Just prior to half, Kaylie Stark of the Saracens scored to put them up 14-7 after 40 minutes. Toronto continued their attack early in the second half, as Vanessa Linhares scored in the corner, bringing the Saracens' lead to 19-12. Aurora wouldn't go without a fight, though as Roberts scored try number two in the match to bring the Barbs within a converted try. That was all the Aurora side could muster, though. Kelly McGuiness of the Saracens added one more try to seal the deal. Final score: 24-12.

OWL 1 Cup Recap - Saturday, August 19 - 1:30pm ET

The OWL Cup began with a quick penalty conversion from the Toronto Saracens. From that point, Toronto didn't look back. They added a quick converted score in the 12th minute, bringing their lead to 10-0 and added another shortly thereafter. With a penalty kick in the 21st minute, the Saracens were up by a healthy margin - 20-0. The Barbarians stormed back before half, scoring two tries to bring the margin to within six points. Toronto scored three more times in the first frame to take a 37-14 lead into halftime. The Aurora Barbarians added two more tries in the second half, but they weren't enough. The Toronto Saracens defeated the Aurora Barbarians by a score of 44-26.
