Nearing the End of the 2017 Marshall Regular Season

2017 Marshall Premiership 

The 2017 Marshall Premiership regular season is coming to a close, with two weeks of competition remaining before the Marshall Premiership playoffs commence. All teams will be playing in their final two regular season games on September 9 and September 16. The current league stature can be found in the table below.

Leading the Way – The Undefeated Brantford Harlequins 

The defending McCormick Cup Champions (11-0-1) Brantford Harlequins are sitting comfortably at the top of the Marshall Premiership with an undefeated 11-0-1 record. With an incredible 591 points for and 194 points against, the robust Quins’ have secured a first-place league finish with a 14-point cushion ahead of the second place Toronto Scottish. With a 397-point differential, Brantford has been resilient on both sides of the ball all season long. This team has a proven offensive ability to score and a strong defensive capacity to keep teams from putting points on the board. Leading the way for Brantford this season is Winger Connor Fitzsimmons, who also leads the league in tries, having scored a total of 20 tries in 9 games for the Harlequins this season.


Bottom of the Pack – Facing Relegation 

The (2-10-0) Aurora Barbarians and (2-9-1) Stoney Creek Camels are battling it out for a seventh-place finish in this years 2017 Marshall Premiership. The Barbarians (16 points) and Camels (15 points) are desperate for a win in the last two weeks of the regular season as one team will face relegation to the Marshall Championship in 2018. With only one point separating the two teams, these last two weeks of competition will decide which team stays in the Premiership and which team will be demoted to the Championship to start the 2018 season.

Wrapping Up the 2017 Marshall Premiership Regular Season

All eight teams in the Marshall Premiership will play their final regular season games on September 9 and September 16. Aurora will face Balmy Beach and the Toronto Scottish in their final two matches, while Stoney Creek faces Markham and Lindsay.



2017 Marshall Championship 

Promoted – From Championship to Premiership 

The fight for promotion within this year’s Marshall Championship has been extremely close throughout the 2017 regular season. Three teams remain in contention for promotion to the Marshall Premiership in 2018. London, Peterborough, and Waterloo are all competing for a first-place finish with two weeks left in the 2017 regular season. The current league stature can be found in the table below.


The (9-3-0) London St. George squad currently sits in first place of this years Marshall Championship with 46 points – only one point ahead of the (9-3-0) Peterborough Pagans. With 522 points for and a 265-point differential, London’s offense has been a significant contributor towards a successful regular season leading up to the 2017 playoffs. On the flip side – throughout the regular season, the Pagans have demonstrated a hard-nosed defensive system and currently hold the league’s lowest points against, only having allowed 245 points against in 12 games played. A hungry (7-5-0) Waterloo County squad cannot be ruled out of the race quite yet, as they sit in third place with a total of 41 points. These next two weeks of competition will dictate which team will be promoted to play in the Marshall Premiership in 2018.
