ROUND 3 PREVIEW

Game 17: (1) Brantford Harlequins vs. (4) Markham Irish 

After scoring a combined 110 points in the first two rounds of the McCormick Cup playoffs, the undefeated Brantford Harlequins have secured a spot in this year’s semi-final matchup against the Markham Irish. The # 4 ranked Markham Irish avoided a potential upset in the second round of this year’s playoffs, defeating Barrie RFC, safeguarding a semi-final matchup against the #1 ranked Harlequins. After defeating Barrie, the Irish draw a tough matchup in the third round, meeting the Brantford Harlequins on the road. The defending McCormick Cup champions are looking to punch their ticket to consecutive McCormick Cup finals, as they host a hungry Markham squad in this year’s semi-final matchup on October 14, 2017.


Game 18: (2) Toronto Scottish vs. (3) Balmy Beach 

In two rounds of McCormick Cup playoff action, the Toronto Scottish dominated emerging Marshall Championship teams, defeating the Oshawa Vikings and Peterborough Pagans before securing a semi-final matchup against the Balmy Beach. In two games played, the #2 ranked Scottish have demonstrated fluidity on both sides of the ball, scoring 90 points for, while allowing only 15 points against. The Beach avoided a potential upset in the second round of this year’s playoffs, defeating an up and coming London St. George squad. The Beach are looking to take home their 4th McCormick Cup in the last 10 years, with their most recent McCormick cups coming consecutively in 2014 and 2015.


The McCormick Cup is a long-standing tradition in Ontario rugby; a term synonymous with Rugby Ontario. The Cup is the title championship for Rugby Ontario's Marshall Premiership & Championship Senior Men’s First Teams, along with the annual EORU Champion.

McCormick Cup Consolation

In McCormick Cup Consolation action, Marshall teams looked to avenge their early exits from the McCormick Cup. Lindsay, Bytown, Crusaders and Aurora were all victorious and will play in the semi-finals this weekend.

Gee Gage Cup

In the Gee Gage Cup, competition is tight, as both matches were won by five points or less. The Toronto Scottish and Crusaders were victorious in Round 1. In the semi-finals, Aurora will take on the Crusaders after a receiving a bye. The winner of this match will take on the Toronto Scottish on October 21, 2017.

Intermediate Cup

The Intermediate Cup kicked off before Thanksgiving with Burlington taking the first of a home-and-home against the Vaughan Yeomen. The second match is set for this weekend in Burlington. The winner of the Intermediate Cup will earn a spot in the Marshall Championship division.
