Canadian Rugby Championship Day 1 Recap

(SASKATOON, SK) The Ontario Blues U20 Women and U19 Men were both in action Monday afternoon in Saskatoon as they were both beginning their Canadian Rugby Championship (CRC) campaigns.

The U20 Women’s team kicked off the 2018 CRC on a winning note, handling the BC Bears by a score of 69-5.  Ontario sustained some early pressure before rattling off 11 unanswered tries to ensure a decisive victory.  Celia Martensson led the way for Ontario with three tries, while Taylour Hurd and Leah Pedis each had a pair.  Annabelle Clement, Camille Irvine, Cassandra Tuffnail and Maddison Wood all contributed single tries.  Hurd added to her two tries with seven conversions, giving her 24 points on the day.

The U19 Men unfortunately fell short to the Atlantic Rock in their CRC opener by a score of 35-19. The U19 Men got off to a slow start going down 10-0 early in the first half. The Blues men managed to battle back and retake the lead, but the Atlantic Rock eventually pulled away in the second half securing the win. The Blues U19 Men are looking to bounce back against the Prairie Blizzard in their second game on Tuesday.
