Saracens and Redcoats play in OWL Cup Final Saturday

The Ontario Women’s League (OWL) Cup is set to take place this weekend at Fletcher’s Fields in Markham, Ontario. The OWL Cup is the championship for Rugby Ontario’s provincial senior women’s league – the top league for women’s rugby in the province.

The Cup Final will kick off at 3:30pm ET from Fletcher’s between the Toronto Saracens (defending champions) and the Guelph Redcoats. The Bronze Medal match will be at 1:00pm ET and will feature the Aurora Barbarians and Niagara Wasps. At 11:30am ET, the Guardian Angels (Aurora Barbarians affiliate) and the Toronto Saracens 2nds will play in the OWL 2 Cup Finals.

To punch their ticket to the OWL Cup final, the Toronto Saracens defeated the Niagara Wasps by a lopsided 72-0 score in their semi-final match. The Saracens are defending champions of the OWL Cup and will look to keep the trophy in their hands for another year.

The Guelph Redcoats won a thrilling semi-final match over the Aurora Barbarians, by just one point. The Redcoats have never won an OWL Cup and will look to topple the defending champions to win their first cup final after an impressive season in the Western conference.

The only time these two teams met in the regular season was on July 11, 2018. The Saracens were able to come away with a 64-22 victory in the match, but the Redcoats were able to have a successful remainder of the season, claiming top spot in the West. Guelph finished with an 8-2-0 record, only losing to the Niagara Wasps and Toronto Saracens, while the Saracens finished with a 9-1-0 record, only being defeated by the Aurora Barbarians.
