Ontario Jr. Blues Announce U19 Men's n Coaching Staff

(WHITBY, ON) -

Rugby Ontario is pleased to announce the appointment of the U19 Men’s Coaching Staff for the 2019 season. Returning as Head Coach will be Canada U18 Men’s Head Coach Mike Curran. Mike has a proven track record at school, club and of course representative levels in Ontario. Provincial High School Championship, CRC U18 and U19 Championships and of even more importance, the development of our young athletes as players on the National Stage wearing the “maple leaf”.

“Our goal as a program is to help our athletes reach their full potential.”l stated Coach Curran. “The program will build on the past success of the Junior Blues development system in an effort to help our players represent Canada at the World U20 Championships and hopefully, the Toronto Arrows on the professional stage.”

It should be noted that 18 of the 23 players on the squad for tomorrow’s Toronto Arrows season opener (the first ever professional rugby game by a Canadian squad) have come through the Ontario Blues Junior program.

Joining Mike on his staff will be Royal Military College/Canada U18 Coach Sean McDonough, Oakville Trafalgar High School Coach James Wood and Canada U18 Coach Jim Delaney.

Talent identification camps will commence in February as we begin to build towards the Canadian Rugby Championships in St. John’s Newfoundland August 5^th to 12^th. ABOUT THE ONTARIO BLUES

The Ontario Blues program is the high performance representative program for male and female rugby players in Ontario. Rugby Ontario is represented at the provincial level by the Ontario Blues. The program includes representative teams from Under-15 to Senior in both Women’s and Men’s Fifteens and Under-18 Men's and Women's Sevens. Specifically, the program is designed to develop and showcase rugby players for Canadian representative national teams.
