Jr.Blues 2019 Age Grade Structure and Schedule

(WHITBY, ON) - Exciting days to be a young rugby player in the province of Ontario! As we fire up our 7’s High Performance Competition season with the Las Vegas 7’s and conclude our Winter Academy HP Sessions, Rugby Ontario is also pleased to announce the Age Grade Structure and Competition Schedule for the 2019 Summer 15-A-Side season.

As per our Winter Academy Sessions which were centred out of Ottawa, Whitby and Guelph; Rugby Ontario will be running Regional Age Grade Programs. “The goal of Regional Based Programs is to increase the number of elite athletes that we can engage across Ontario” stated High Performance Manager Paul Connelly. “Decrease travel time, greater number of interactions between HP staff and athletes, all using a more cost- efficient development model.” 

Regional Programs

EORU: Training Centred out of Ottawa and Kingston (Co-ordinated by the EORU)

  • •U16 and U18 Boys
  • •U16 and U18 Girls

Ontario Central: Training Centred out of Whitby and Belleville (Athletes: Hwy 400 East / Including Barrie)

  • •U15, U16, U17 and U18 Boys
  • •U16 and U18 Girls 

Ontario West: Training Centred out of Fergus and Brantford (Hwy 400 West / Brantford / London / Sarnia)

  • •U15, U16, U17 and U18 Boys
  • •U16 and U18 Girls

2019 Schedule (Exact Times and Locations TBC)

  • Athlete Identification Sessions:
  • Saturday April 13th and 27th (Ontario Central: Whitby)
  • Sunday April 14th and 28th (Ontario West: York University)
  • May: High School Season Evaluation (Coaches will be observing athletes in action)
  • Regional Based Try-outs: Sunday June 9th, 16th and 23rd (Teams to be selected by June 25th)
  • Regional Training Sessions: 3 pm to 7 pmJuly 1st, 7th, 14th
  • University of Guelph 4-Day Camp July 17th to 20th 
  • Regional Training Sessions: 3pm to 7 pmJuly 28th, August 5th
  • Eastern Canadian Championships: Queens University August 11th to 17th
  • All player(s) kit, accommodation and meals included.

Anticipated Cost for Full Program:  $2100 – $2400

  • Program Fee includes:
    • 10 Days of accommodations and meals (Kingston and Guelph)
    • Access to ETS Strength and Conditioning Program App
    • Access to Hudl film review (team)
    • Access to Head-Check Concussion management app 
    • Optional Buy-Up insurance for extended coverage during Blues games/training
    • Field Rental and Athletic Therapist coverage for 9 training sessions (Camps included)
    • Game Kit (Shorts, Socks, Training Shirt)
    • Team Apparel (Polo, Jacket and Kit Bag)
    • Branded Rugby Ontario Rugby Ball
    • Subscription to The Rugby Site: Coach/Player Resource Web-Site

*Fundraising (Jersey, Team Banner and Individual Banner Sponsorship) opportunities will be available for all players.

ABOUT THE ONTARIO BLUES

The Ontario Blues program is the high performance representative program for male and female rugby players in Ontario. Rugby Ontario is represented at the provincial level by the Ontario Blues. The program includes representative teams from Under-15 to Senior in both Women’s and Men’s Fifteens and Under-18 Men's and Women's Sevens. Specifically, the program is designed to develop and showcase rugby players for Canadian representative national teams.
