In Memory of Lloyd Dobson

March 20th, 2019

(WHITBY,ON)- It is with great sadness that Rugby Ontario announces the passing of Toronto Nomads player and coach Lloyd Dobson. Rugby Ontario sends its condolences to Lloyd’s family and the Toronto Nomads Rugby Club. The Nomads have provided Rugby Ontario with the following statement regarding Lloyd’s passing:

The Toronto Nomads and the wider rugby community is mourning the sudden death this past weekend of Nomads’ stalwart Lloyd Dobson at age 39.

Lloyd came to Toronto from B.C. in 1997 and joined Nomads. He played prop, sometimes hooker, for Nomads senior men. A powerful scrummager, Lloyd played for Nomads’ 1sts during the 2018 season including, impressively, playing the full 80 minutes in several key games as the team successfully fought to avoid relegation. Lloyd was looking forward to playing again in 2019.

In addition to playing Lloyd was Nomads’ under 18 boys’ Head Coach for several seasons and also coached Oakwood Collegiate boys for many years. As a club and school coach Lloyd introduced rugby, and his passion for it, to many young men including a number who went on to represent Ontario and Canada.

Rugby was big part of Lloyd’s life and he was a big and unforgettable part of ours. He will be sorely missed.

Nomads and the wider rugby community extends it condolences to Lloyd’s mother and family.
