NextGen Showcase Recap

April 1st, 2019

The Ontario Jr. Blues U18 Girls have returned from the Rugby Canada NextGen 7s showcase in Shawnigan Lake, British Columbia. Rugby Ontario sent two teams to the West Coast, to compete against the Rugby Canada Development Academy and the BC U18 Girls team. “The experience that these 24 players received during their week at Shawnigan Lake was remarkable” said Jr. Blues Girls Head Coach Ian Fitzgerald.  “They were able to visit, train and watch the National Women 7s program at their training facilities in Langford and were able to compete against some of the top 7s players in the country.”

The exposure to the National Level players and coaches was one of the reasons the Rugby Ontario 7s coaches and staff were keen to make the trip out west. “On behalf of Rugby Ontario7s,  I'd like to personally thank NSW7s Head Coach John Tait and program manger Nicole Crowley for hosting us in such a remarkable showcase” said Khalil Ajram, Rugby Ontario 7s program lead. “The entire week was focused on giving our Ontario athletes a first hand look and feel of being involved in the next stage of their rugby development. The feedback from the players, parents and staff has been nothing but positive.”

Next up for the Rugby Ontario 7s program, our U16 and U17 Jr. Blues teams will be traveling to Florida to compete in the Tropical 7s tournament from April 19th –20th
