Tropical 7s Recap
April 23rd, 2019
(ORLANDO, FL) - The Ontario Jr. Blues Program sent four teams to compete at the Tropical 7s tournament in Orlando. The Jr. Blues fielded both a U17 Girls & Boys team and a U16 Girls & Boys team.
The Jr. Blues teams were all playing in challenging divisions due to the age inclusions in the USA (Sept.1 previous year- cut offs). The first day of the tournament saw all Jr. Blues teams begin the event with wins, before the weather took over. Due to heavy rain and poor field conditions, Tropical 7s tournament organizers suspended play for day.
Due to the delay, day two of the tournament featured a full day of action. All four Ontario Jr. Blues teams performed well in the round-robin, and all of them advanced to the playoff round. In the end, the U17 & U16 Girls teams both took home the Cup championships in their respective divisions. On the Boys side, the U17 squad finished 2nd in their division, while the U16 team finished 4th.
With the Tropical 7s now completed so too is the RO7s program for the 2018-2019 season. “I'd like to personally thank the 96 players, their families, our 11 staff and our trainers for a very successful year” said Khalil Ajram, Rugby Ontario 7s program lead. “The improvement from our first session in December to now has been tenfold and the entire coaching staff can't wait to track these players as they represent Ontario and hopefully Canada someday!"
