Fall Cup Round Two Preview

September 27th, 2019

(WHITBY, ON) - It’s Round Two of the Fall Cup competition! After week one, some clubs will look to bounce back after some tough defeats. Below is a preview of the Round #2 matchups for both pools. The Fall Cup Championships match will take place on Saturday, October 19th at Fletcher’s Fields, as part of McCormick Cup Day. To view the full Fall Cup schedule and draw, click here

POOL A Round #2 Matchups

London St. George (H) v. Crusaders Rugby Club (A), London St George Club, 3PM 

BYE: Ajax Wanderers

Fresh off a BYE week, London St. George look to kick-off their Fall Cup campaign with a win over their West Division rivals. London matched up with Crusaders twice during the 2019 Marshall season. The two clubs split their season series, with the home team winning both matchups. London will hope history repeats itself on Saturday. 

Crusaders Rugby Club opened the Fall Cup competition against the Ajax Wanderers on the road in Round One. The Crusaders were too much for Ajax, winning the match 62-5.  They will look to keep that momentum going and extend their winning streak to three games. The Crusaders defeated London St. George in last round of the Marshall season. 

POOL B Round #2 Matchups

Lindsay RFC (H) v. Toronto Nomads (A), 67 Vince Jones Rd, 3PM

BYE: Barrie RFC 

The top seeded team in Pool B, Lindsay RFC, will be fresh this Saturday after a BYE in Round One. Lindsay RFC went 6-8-0 in the regular season, finishing in 6th place in the Marshall East Division with 30 points. The club were very good at home, winning  five of their seven home games. Lindsay will take on the Nomads for the second time in three weeks. During the final round of the Marshall season, Lindsay beat the Nomads 28-26.

The Nomads hosted top seed Barrie RFC in Round One of the Fall Cup last weekend. Barrie defeated the Toronto club 55-12, putting the Nomads at the bottom of the Pool B standings. Good news for the Nomads, they have already beaten Lindsay RFC once this season. They beat the Gryphons 34-19 in Round 6 of Marshall season. 

ABOUT THE ONTARIO BLUES

The Ontario Blues program is the high performance representative program for male and female rugby players in Ontario. Rugby Ontario is represented at the provincial level by the Ontario Blues. The program includes representative teams from Under-15 to Senior in both Women’s and Men’s Fifteens and Under-18 Men's and Women's Sevens. Specifically, the program is designed to develop and showcase rugby players for Canadian representative national teams.
