(WHITBY, ON) -  On Saturday, November 23rd, Rugby Ontario held it’s annual Hall of Fame & Awards Banquet at Maple Banquet Hall in Mississauga. The night was highlighted by the induction seven individuals and one team into the Rugby Ontario Hall of Fame. Congratulations to the Hall of Fame Class of 2019: Bob Boos & Mick Ferras

Paul Myers, William O’Mahony, Ron Pither, Sherri Sparling, Glen Steen and the Toronto Scottish Women’s Team (1996-2005). 

“On behalf of Rugby Ontario, we would like to congratulate this year’s class of inductees to the Rugby Ontario Hall of Fame” said Myles Spencer, Chief Executive Officer of Rugby Ontario. “This special and well-deserved recognition honours their remarkable contributions and service to the sport of rugby in Ontario.”

Rugby Ontario would also like to recognize the significant achievements of the annual award winners for 2019. The winners were also honoured as part of the banquet proceedings. Below is a list of our 2019 Annual Award winners. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, programs and match officials who received awards.

Senior Provincial Player of the Year (Female) – Lori Josephson (Guelph Redcoats)

Senior Provincial Player of the Year (Male) – Mitch Voralek (Waterloo County)

Junior Provincial Player of the Year (Female) – Elizabeth Gibson (Crusaders)

Junior Provincial Player of the Year (Male) – Liam Bowman (Crusaders)

Senior Club Player of the Year (Female) – Kellee Smith (Belleville Bulldogs)

Senior Club Player of the Year (Male) – Johnny Sheridan (Markham Irish)

Club Coach of the Year (Female) – Kailyn Jones (Brantford Harlequins)

Club Coach of the Year (Male) – Aaron McDonald (Barrhaven Scottish)

Junior Club Program of the Year (Female) – Toronto City RFC

Junior Club Program of the Year (Male) – Burlington Centaurs RC

Minor Club Program of the Year – Owen Sound RFC

Senior Match Official of the Year – Talal “Moe” Chaudhry

Junior Match Official of the Year – James Neale

Over 260 people attended the event, which featured dinner as well as a silent auction. “Special thanks to everyone that attended this celebration of rugby in Ontario. The event was a fantastic way to cap off the 2019 season” said Myles Spencer.

ABOUT THE ONTARIO BLUES

The Ontario Blues program is the high performance representative program for male and female rugby players in Ontario. Rugby Ontario is represented at the provincial level by the Ontario Blues. The program includes representative teams from Under-15 to Senior in both Women’s and Men’s Fifteens and Under-18 Men's and Women's Sevens. Specifically, the program is designed to develop and showcase rugby players for Canadian representative national teams.
