Rugby Ontario Thanks David Patterson

February 5th, 2020

(WHITBY, ON) - After six years with Rugby Ontario, David Patterson will be moving on from the organization. David has been with Rugby Ontario since 2013, serving in various roles, most recently as Director of Administration & Member Services. In the summer of 2019, he also served as Co-Interim CEO along with current Chief Operating Officer, Nicole Kovacs. 

“I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to David on behalf of the Rugby Ontario Board of Directors, office staff and colleagues throughout the Ontario rugby community” said Rugby Ontario CEO Myles Spencer. “Rugby Ontario is grateful for David’s many years of service and his tremendous impact on the sport of rugby in Ontario.  We wish David well in this next chapter in his career in sport.”

"David has dedicated a tremendous amount of time and effort throughout the years to rugby in Ontario and became a cornerstone of the organization” said Rugby Ontario COO Nicole Kovacs. “David will be deeply missed at Rugby Ontario and within the rugby community. He is wished only the best in his new role.”

During his time with the organization, David made major contributions to the Ontario rugby community, and has been integrally involved in the growth and development of the sport. As the driving force behind the resurrection of the Rugby Ontario Hall of Fame, David helped establish the Hall of Fame committee and the Rugby Ontario Annual Awards & Hall of Fame Dinner. In 2019, over 250 people attended the event, which has become a highlight in the Rugby Ontario event calendar. 

“On behalf of the Hall of Fame & Awards Committee I can say that we will miss David's servant leadership and efficiency in supporting the work we do to recognize outstanding achievements in our sport in Ontario” said Domenic Scuglia, Chair of the Hall of Fame & Awards Committee and Past Chair of Rugby Ontario. “David was pivotal in our ability to be organized and we wish him all the best in his new role. Thank you, David!”

David was very active in the area of youth rugby development. He was influential in helping member clubs set up the structure for their youth programs, giving more young rugby players the opportunity to play the game. David also worked with all member clubs, developing strategies to help grow their membership and participation across the province. In addition to his contributions in Ontario, David has played a role in numerous initiatives in conjunction with Rugby Canada and the Provincial Unions across Canada. 

“David has continually gone above and beyond for the betterment of rugby, not only in Ontario but in Canada” said Paul Hunter, Director of Development with Rugby Canada “David leaves behind a legacy of fundamental programs which he has introduced and grown over his tenure with Rugby Ontario. He would always put a club at the centre of everything that he did and was passionate about growing and developing rugby. I would like to thank David for all that he has given to Rugby in Canada.”

Rugby Ontario would like to thank David for his commitment to the sport of rugby. We wish him all the best as he moves into a new role in the sport of cricket. 

ABOUT THE ONTARIO BLUES

The Ontario Blues program is the high performance representative program for male and female rugby players in Ontario. Rugby Ontario is represented at the provincial level by the Ontario Blues. The program includes representative teams from Under-15 to Senior in both Women’s and Men’s Fifteens and Under-18 Men's and Women's Sevens. Specifically, the program is designed to develop and showcase rugby players for Canadian representative national teams.
