Ontario Senior Women's Program Update

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 18th, 2018

(WHITBY, ON) - The Rugby Ontario High Performance Program is excited to announce a new structure for the Ontario Senior Women’s Team beginning in 2019. In partnership with Rugby Canada, Ontario will now be divided into ONTARIO EAST and ONTARIO WEST. “The rationale behind this change is to support our developing provincial athletes.” stated Rugby Ontario High Performance Manager Paul Connelly.

  • Regional Hubs support increased training touch points.
  • Expanded player pool across the province.
  • Decrease in travel time and cost to the athlete.
  • Opportunities for professional development for local club and school coaches.

Rugby Canada Senior Women’s Head Coach Sandro Fiorino is in full support of this partnership. “Being able to directly provide S&C, Technical and Tactical support to the Rugby Ontario Regional Program(s) will help better prepare our elite athletes for competition at the International Level.” While the exact program structure is still being finalized, the ONE CALENDAR focus includes: February and March Regional Talent Identification Camps

(U20 to Sr. Women)

  • April/May Regional Competition
  • End of May/June: Selection of Two Teams from the Two Regional Teams.
  • Ontario Senior Women’s Provincial Team
  • Ontario Developmental Team (U23)
  • July/August: Eastern Canadian Competition (Ontario/Quebec/Atlantic)

As with all Rugby Ontario HP Programs, the ONE CALENDAR approach will support athlete engagement with their home club program and of course, all NSWT events.
