Rugby Ontario Minor Festival 2019

August 23rd, 2019

(WHITBY, ON) - On Sunday, August 18th, Rugby Ontario held our annual Minor Festival at Victoria Fields in Whitby! The event featured over 50, U7, U9 and U11 teams, playing matches on multiple fields.

“The Minor Festival was an excellent day that showcased the hard work minor coaches have put in across the province” said Ryan Jones, Rugby Development Manager for Rugby Ontario. “The rugby on display at all three levels was competitive and enjoyable to watch.”

Included in the festivities were three sessions of girls only games, which kicked off the competitions for each of their respective age groups. “It is amazing to see the excitement and talent of these girls, especially when playing together” said Nicole Kovacs, Co-Interim Rugby Ontario CEO.  “Each year the interest for the girls only games grows, and along with it, their skills and passion for the sport. It is truly wonderful to witness, and I hope the interest of girls and women in rugby continues to cultivate.”

The festival also brought out a number of Canadian Rugby stars. Canadian International and World Rugby Hall of Fame Member Al Charron , Toronto Arrows players Dan Moor, Marcello Wainwright and Lucas Rumball as well as Jr. Blues Program player Sam Reimer were on hand to present athletes with their medals. Rugby Ontario would like to thank Al, Dan, Marcello, Lucas and Sam for coming and supporting minor rugby!

Rugby Ontario would like to thank all of our sponsors for helping to make the 2019 Minor Festival such a fantastic event: Rugby Canada, the Toronto Arrows, Honda Canada, Gilbert Rugby Canada, Metro, and Sportside Medical.
