 OBJAA & RCDA Combine Registration

September 1st, 2021

(WHITBY, ON) – Rugby Ontario, in partnership with Rugby Canada and the Toronto Arrows are excited to announce the launch of our 2021-22 Academy programs. The Rugby Canada Development Academy (Females) and the Ontario Blues: Jr Arrows Academy (Males) will host combines throughout September as part of the identification and selection process. Both programs will run from October 2021 – April 2022 and operate regionally with designated centres in Guelph, Whitby/Toronto, and Ottawa.

Each centre will provide technical/tactical training for all players as well as strength and conditioning programming. Access to key resources such as: athletic therapy, nutritional support, mental performance coaching, and video review/analysis will also be provided to ensure the holistic development of all players. In addition, centralized training sessions and competitions will be scheduled throughout the seven-month program.

Who is a good fit for these programs?

Athletes who are self-motivated and driven to achieve excellence both on and off the field will be best suited for these programs. The Rugby Canada Development Academy and Ontario Blues: Jr Arrows Academy are very demanding both physically and mentally, as the athletes will be challenged in many new and different ways. Athletes must have a growth mindset and be able to conduct themselves professionally and positively in a close- knit team environment.

Key Program Principles

Growth Mindset

Consistent application of physical and mental resources is required to achieve desired growth in skills, abilities, and character. This adaptation occurs when an internal or external pressure forces the individual to respond. There will be times in which perseverance is required to overcome adversity. A commitment to this process will lead to success and a developed resiliency for future challenges.

Personal Accountability

Personal accountability for how we manage ourselves and interact with others is necessary to achieve provincial/national team success. Self-management of behaviours including punctuality, attitude, and preparation are required to create a foundation upon which learning can occur. The communication and interaction we have with others must be inclusive, and respectful in order to facilitate team success.

Community

We require support from multiple networks to achieve our goals. Maintaining positive and mutually beneficial relationships with schools, families, clubs, and local communities are necessary to attain our rugby aspirations. Giving back to these communities in meaningful ways is important to grow these partnerships, develop holistic student-athletes, and represent Rugby Canada.

Registration Information

Players already registered and engaged in the provincial summer training program will not need to register to attend these combines as they are already part of their program. For all new players looking to participate, please see below the overview of each program and their respective registration link.
