Rugby Ontario Announces RCDA & OBJAA Academy Selections

November 10th, 2021

(WHITBY, ON) - Rugby Ontario, in partnership with the Ontario High Performance Sport Initiative, are excited to announce the athlete selections for our High-Performance Academies. Working with Technical partners Rugby Canada and the Toronto Arrows, The Rugby Canada Development Academy (Female) and the Ontario Blues Junior Arrows Academy (Male) will both run this offseason from November - April. Both programs consist of athletes ages 15 to 18 and will operate regionally with designated centres in Guelph, Whitby/Toronto, and Ottawa. In total, the programs will engage over 100 athletes from 31 different clubs across the province.

“Through the support and investment at our partners at the Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSI), and the Ontario High Performance Sport Initiate (OHPSI), the 2021-22 Academy is poised to be the best program to date” said Sean Medeiros, Rugby Ontario’s High-Performance Coordinator. “In development with our technical partners at Rugby Canada and the Toronto Arrows, we are excited to work with these players for the next six months and to provide them support in all areas of athlete development.”

This year, the announcement of the athlete selection list is made solemnly as we recognize the selection of Brock Marshall, who tragically passed on October 24th. Although the program will be without Brock it will continue to honour his memory and achievements.

"Brock Marshall was one of our top performers at the Rugby Ontario Junior Arrows Academy (OBJAA) Trials. As a 15-year-old, excellent results in Combine Testing, combined with his outstanding game play, resulted in Brock being selected to join the OJBAA Central Academy" said Paul Connelly, Rugby Ontario's High-Performance Manager. "We have no doubt that Brock would have had a very bright future representing Ontario and the Arrows. Our thoughts are with the family and the entire Brock Rugby Community.”

The Rugby Canada Development Academy, and Ontario Blues: Jr Arrows Academy are entering years six and two of operation, respectively. Both Programs are led by Rugby Ontario in partnership with The Canadian Sport Institute Ontario, Rugby Canada, and the Toronto Arrows

Both programs will operate regionally with designated centres in Guelph, Whitby/Toronto, and Ottawa. Each centre will provide technical/tactical training for all players as well as strength and conditioning programming. Access to key resources such as: athletic therapy, nutritional support, mental performance coaching, and video review/analysis will also be provided to ensure the holistic development of all players. In addition, centralized training sessions and competitions will be scheduled throughout the seven month program.

Congratulations to all of the players selected to both the RCDA and OBJAA. Below are the selected athletes sorted by region.
