2022 Toronto Rugby Union Senior Men's & Women's League Previews

(WHITBY, ON) - The Toronto Rugby Union and Rugby Ontario are pleased to announce the schedule and structure for the TRU Senior Men’s and Women’s Leagues for the 2022 season. Both leagues will be operating in full capacity for the first time since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

“The past few years have been challenging for the sport community and we are thrilled to finally be getting back on the pitch to a regular season” said Lesley Swan, convenor for the TRU Women’s League. 

The TRU Senior Women's division consists of an east and west division:  

East – Lindsay RFC, Peterborough Pagans, Belleville Bulldogs, Scarborough RFC and Ajax  Wanderers 

West – Barrie RFC, Lions/Scottish, Markham Irish, Blues/Brampton, North Halton RFC and Crusaders 

The clubs will play ten regular season rounds, which will be held between May 14 and August 6. The playoffs run from August 13 to August 27, where clubs will battle for the TRU Cup, Plate and Bowl championships.  The TRU Cup champion is determined in a single game between the winner of the east and west division meeting on August 13. The Cup winner will then play for promotion to the OWL division in a single game on August 20.  The rest of the top TRU clubs will play for the Plate and Bowl championships which culminate on TRU Championship Day August 27.  

 TRU Men's consists of first and second division rugby leagues. The first division is broken into two branches; TRU RED & TRU White.  The RED division consists of Bay Street Pigs, Toronto Buccaneers, Balmy Beach TRU, Mississauga Blues and Cobourg Saxons.   The WHITE division has the Brampton Beavers, Belleville Bulldogs, Toronto Dragons and Lindsay RFC.  There are 8 games for first division clubs, which will be held between May 14 and August 6. 

Playoffs run from August 13 to August 27 where TRU division 1 clubs will battle for the TRU Cup, Plate and Bowl championships. The TRU Cup champion is determined in a single game between the winner of the RED and WHITE divisions meeting on August 13. The Cup winner will then play for promotion to the Marshal division in a home & away series on August 20 and 27.  The rest of the top TRU clubs will play for the Plate and Bowl championships which culminate on TRU Championship Day August 27.   

The TRU Men’s second division league consists of the following clubs; Balmy Beach TRU 2, Buccaneers 2, Bay St. 2, Mississauga 2, Cobourg 2, Muddy York RFC, North Halton RFC, Brock RFC, Toronto Saracens RFC, Oakville Crusaders 3, Nomads 3, Peterborough Pagans 3, Oshawa Vikings 3, Brampton 2, Lindsay 2, Belleville 2 and Dragons 2. The TRU second division runs from May 14 to August 6.  A division champion will be crowned based on total points at the end of the season.
