High Performance Program Update

October 21st, 2022

(WHITBY, ON) - Rugby Ontario would like to provide an update regarding our high performance program. The organization is going through significant change and is undertaking important steps for the future of the provincial and high performance programs. Rugby Ontario is pleased to be able to provide the following updates.

Fall Tours

As a result of the significant staff changeover and the impending High Performance Committee process, Rugby Ontario has made the decision not to proceed with any fall tours for the Ontario Blues 15s programs in 2022. We recognize this may disappoint our players, parents coaches and program personnel engaged in this past summer’s programs; however, we did not make this decision lightly. The demand on the organization, timing and consideration of other factors impacting athlete selection / availability and staff capacity all played into this decision. We thank all those that participated in the Ontario Blues summer programs, including the athletes representing the Eastern Ontario Rugby Union teams, for your incredible commitment to the 2022 program.

Development Academies

Rugby Ontario will be continuing with the delivery of the Ontario Blues Development Academy (formerly RCDA) and Ontario Blues Junior Arrows Academy (OBJAA) programming, which is funded by the Ontario High Performance Sport Initiative (OHPSI) of the Ontario Government and Canadian Sport Institute Ontario (CSIO).  This programming is for targeted female and male athletes respectively, which runs from November-April.

- To initiate the athlete selection process, There will be three (3) athlete combines on Sunday, October 30th.
