It’s your Weekend Round-Up from the long weekend!
Senior Men’s Interbranch
Senior Men’s Interbranch kicked off this weekend with two matches. NRU won 26-5 over EORU and SWRU won 36-32 over TRU.
Head Coaches from the branches share their thoughts on this weekend’s matches below.
“We were happy to kick off the return of the interbranch competition and give our players meaningful competition in front of provincial and national selectors. We were able to create some chaos in the areas we targeted and score some exciting tries. For the upcoming week, if we get a few more key details right, I think we can unlock another level of speed in our game.”
–Adam Maahs, Head Coach of SWRU
Even though it’s only been one week of interbranch competition, it’s been great to see so many quality rugby players take to the field. The interbranch is really proving itself to be the highest level of rugby in Ontario, and the team formed from it to represent Rugby Ontario in BC will be battle-hardened and tough to beat.
–Iain McLeish, Head Coach of TRU and Ontario Blues Senior Men’s Coach
It’s great to have the Inter-branch competition back and in-turn Ontario Senior Men.
The opening for NRU was a successful outing. We played well considering the weather conditions. A few things to work on, but lots of talent to work with. The lads are really looking forward to the SouthWest game this Saturday night.
We had a good number of players who played well, but I would say Jordan Ng (winger) and Max Boulanger (flanker) both put in outstanding performances.
–Scott Hendry, Head Coach of NRU
“We got to see this first group against some quality opposition and we’ll see a few new faces this week as we rotate through. I thought defensively we had some very good moments and some real grit. Cameron Bubyn made a big difference when he came on, but both front rows played very well! Alan Beros also showed some real flashes, but in the end, we simply had too many errors on the day. We’ll look to tidy up our attack; focusing on contact areas and lineouts, and see what forward steps we can take this week. We’re looking forward to another really physical encounter this weekend!”
-John Lavery, Head Coach of EORU
QORC
It was the fifth game for QORC, Ontario East vs Quebec East. In the end, Quebec East won 49-42 over Ontario East.
