(WHITBY, ON) -  The 2022 Minor Rugby season will come to a close this Sunday, August 21st, 2022 at the Rugby Ontario Minor Festival, hosted at Victoria Fields in Whitby. The festival will feature 70 teams from 21 different clubs from all across the province. There will be teams from U6, U8, U10 and U12 age groups playing matches on multiple fields. The event signals the end of a very successful 2022 Minor Festival season. Over the course of the summer, 31 festivals have been hosted by multiple clubs all across Ontario. The return of the Minor Festival events calendar has helped introduce the sport of rugby to many new players and allowed rugby to continue to grow at the grass roots level.

“This years Minor Festival Season was a huge success. After two summers with no rugby we had an incredible number of festival’s hosted and athletes come out” said Katherine Gibbins, Coordinator, Coach Development & Community Rugby for Rugby Ontario. “I want to thank each and every club that hosted a festival and every minor team coach for a wonderful season of Minor Rugby. Looking forward to celebrating with all the teams at our Rugby Ontario Festival!”

The Toronto Arrows, Rugby Canada and Gilbert Rugby will all be on site. Sobeys will be providing athletes with a snack and there will also be local food trucks at the event.
