Senior Men's Cup Competitions Round Two Preview

September 15th, 2022

(WHITBY, ON) – Its round two of the McCormick Cup and Fall Cup knockout competitions and the second round of round robin games in the Gee Gage Cup. All three Cup Final will be played on McCormick Cup Day on Saturday, October 1st at Fletchers Field! Read below for a preview of the second round matches in each competition. 

McCormick Cup

(1) Toronto Scottish v. (4) Burlington Centaurs

The top-seeded Toronto Scottish defeated the EORU Champion Kingston Panthers in the opening round of the of the McCormick Cup to advance to the semi-final. They will meet the Burlington Centaurs, who finished first in the Marshall South Division during the regular season. The Centaurs defeated the Oshawa Vikings 32-17 in the opening round of the tournament. This will be the first time the teams will play against each this season. 

(2) Balmy Beach v. (3) Brantford Harlequins

Balmy Beach beat the Aurora Barbarians 51-24 in the opening round of the McCormick Cup to advance to the semi-final round. They will take on the defending champions, the Brantford Harlequins, who beat Waterloo County in round one. During the regular season the Beach and Harlequins finished first and second in total points respectively. The Harlequins are looking to advance to their fifth-straight McCormick Cup final.

Fall Cup

(1) Crusaders Rugby Club v. (5) Barrie RFC

The top-seeded Crusaders Rugby Club were awarded a bye in round one of the Fall Cup competition. The Crusaders finished the Marshall Regular season with a record of 6-0-4, placing second in the South division. Barrie RFC defeated the Toronto Nomads in the first round of the Fall Cup. 

(2) Peterborough Pagans v. (6) London St. George

The Pagans scored a big victory over the Ajax Wanderers in the opening round of the Fall Cup to advance to the semi-final round. They will take on London St. George’s who finished the Marshall League regular season with a record of 3-1-6 placing third in the Marshall West division.

Gee Gage Cup

Balmy Beach defeated the Toronto Scottish in the first round of games of the Gee Gage Cup competition. Next up, Lindsay RFC will play the Toronto Scottish. Lindsay RFC competed in the TRU 1 Division in 2022. They went 6-0-2 during the TRU 1 regular season, finishing in third. They won the TRU Cup, defeating the Brampton Beavers. In the third round of games, Lindsay will play Balmy Beach. After three rounds of play the top two teams will advance to the Gee Gage Cup final.
