World Rugby has announced the referee panel for the Women's Rugby World Cup, which will take place in Ireland from August 9 - 26. Rose LaBreche, an Ontario native, will be an Assistant Referee for the tournament, adding another significant event to her extensive resume.
Rose had her first international experience in 2015 when she took an opportunity to participate in the Women’s Sevens Series, where she officiated both the Langford and Amsterdam circuits. Her knowledge and skills were identified there and Rose was named to the international female elite panel for sevens rugby.
Since then, she has officiated on the international stage on various occasions, including the inaugural display of rugby sevens at the Rio Olympics.
“Every international match is an honour to partake in, and there are always butterflies in my stomach as I am running onto the field for kickoff," Rose told us in October after being named to the Women's World Rugby Sevens Series officiating team.
The list of referees for the WRWC is: Amy Perrett (Australia, pictured above), Graham Cooper (Australia), Tim Baker (Hong Kong), Joy Neville (Ireland), Sean Gallagher (Ireland), Sara Cox (England), Claire Hodnett (England), Aimee Barrett (South Africa) and Alhambra Nievas (Spain), the joint-recipient of the World Rugby Referee Award 2016.
Five assistant referees, each representing a different country, have also been named in: Rose Labreche (Canada), Beatrice Benvenuti (Italy), Marie Lematte (France), Helen O'Reilly (Ireland) and Ian Tempest (England).
