Balmy Beach and Brantford to battle for McCormick Cup October 21

(MARKHAM, ON) - On October 21, 2017, the Balmy Beach Rugby Football Club and the Brantford Harlequins Rugby Football Club will be sending their respective Senior Men's sides to Fletcher's Fields to compete for the McCormick Cup. The McCormick Cup Final will kick off at 2:30pm ET, capping off a day of Senior Men's rugby which also includes the McCormick Cup Consolation Final, as well as the Gee Gage Cup Consolation and Final.

The Brantford Harlequins are coming off of another tremendous season, as they went undefeated in Marshall Premiership play (13-0-1). The 2016 McCormick Cup Champions only had one draw on the season against the second-place Toronto Scottish. The Quins scored a total of 692 points and only allowed 250 points in the 14-game season. With the momentum of a strong playoff campaign and regular season, Brantford will look to repeat as McCormick Cup champions. The Quins have four provincial championship wins in team history.

Balmy Beach's regular season got the job done for them, even though they were just two wins above .500 (8-6-0). Their playoff performance proves that a team's regular season record does not matter once playoff time rolls around. The third-place Beach squad has been resilient in the playoffs, most recently upsetting the favoured Toronto Scottish in their semifinal match. Balmy Beach never ceases to amaze during McCormick Cup playoff time and this year is no exception. The Beach look to bring their provincial championship total to 16 this year with a win.

The McCormick Cup Consolation Final will see the Aurora Barbarians take on the Crusaders. This match is at 11:30am ET at Fletcher's Fields. Both teams look to avenge their early exits from the playoffs. The Barbs look to prove themselves after a tough season, which caused them to be demoted to the Marshall Championship.

The Gee Gage Cup - an optional Championship tournament for Marshall second division teams and branch union first teams - will also have its Final on October 21, as the Toronto Scottish II will take on the Aurora Barbarians II at 12:45pm ET. The Consolation Final will see the Crusaders II and Balmy Beach II play at 11:00am ET.

Tickets for the McCormick Cup Day are $10 per person and they can be purchased at the gate or online at https://markham.snapd.com/events/view/1089373.
