UPCOMING WEBINAR: Rugby Ontario and CAAWS Women on Boards

Rugby Ontario is excited to announce an upcoming webinar that will be run in partnership with the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women in Sport and Physical Activity (CAAWS). The Webinar titled ‘Women on Boards’ will be taking place on March 27, 2018 at 7:00pm EDT.

Women on Boards Presentation – Patsy Pike

This webinar—Women on Boards: For Organizations—will provide insightful information on how to create an inclusive Board culture, on the value of women on your Board, and on strategies to assist in overcoming some of the challenges and recruiting more women.

CAAWS motivates, educates and builds confidence in women to run for a board position, raises awareness of what is involved in being on a board and helps to create a leadership development plan. CAAWS also engages women already involved in board work to continue to aspire to higher levels and mentor and encourage more women to get involved.

This presentation will provide:

✓ insightful information on how to create an inclusive Board culture

✓ the value of women on your Board

✓ strategies to assist in overcoming some of the challenges

✓ recruiting more women

CAAWS is committed to supporting organizations in becoming more equitable at the Board level and realizing these benefits.

In addition to providing a power point presentation, the facilitator will encourage group discussion. Handouts and a Resource List will be provided.

Please register for the March 27 ‘Women on Boards’ webinar at https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/4655946147975183107.

Background Information - Why Boards Need More Women?

A 2005 study by Catalyst Canada Inc. found that women account for one in nine corporate directorships in Canada. Information on the proportion of women on the boards of Canadian not-for-profit organizations is not readily available; however, it is generally recognized that women are often underrepresented in leadership positions. Some Canadian data suggest that men account for more of the total hours of volunteer involvement with not-for-profit sport and recreation organizations than women. Furthermore, men also account for more hours spent on boards and committees of not-for-profit sport and recreation organizations.

Joining a board can be the first step on a journey of rewarding experiences, both personally and for the chosen organization. A position on a board can offer a wealth of opportunities to broaden horizons, gain new skills, and experience the satisfaction of serving the community at large.
