 Marshall and OWL League Updates

It was a great weekend in the Ontario Women’s League (OWL) and Marshall Leagues. Many clubs are fighting for position in the standings as the regular season is winding to a close.

The OWL has been exciting so far as the season winds down. The Guelph Redcoats and Toronto Saracens are still dominating their respective divisions. July 11th Toronto Saracens and Guelph Redcoats had a match of the undefeated. The Saracens came away with a decisive victory over Guelph 64-22 cementing themselves as the favourites going into the playoffs. Guelph played the Niagara Wasps three days later and lost by a score of 62-31,dropping their record to 6-2. Niagara Wasps and Aurora Barbarians are looking steady in the second position in each division. As Toronto Nomads, Toronto Scottish, Waterloo County and Markham Irish round out the bottom of each division.

In the Marshall Premiership, it was a great weekend as the Toronto Scottish knocked off the Peterborough Pagans 37-12 to pad their lead atop the East Premiership. Lindsay after a huge upset the week before failed to build upon their momentum and lost to Balmy Beach 36-14. The Brantford Harlequins also added to their lead on top the west premiership division with a win over the Markham Irish 29-15. The Scottish and Harlequins still lead both divisions in the Marshall Premiership with Lindsay RFC’s loss The Markham Irish are the only other team with a winning record in the Marshall Premiership.

In the Marshall Championship. There was a large upset with the Burlington Centaurs falling to London St George by a score of 27-25. London has handed Burlington their first loss since being promoted to the Marshall Championship. Barrie RFC has gained top spot in the East Championship division with a 39-15win over the Ajax Wanderers. Waterloo County and London St George keep their strong form going into the playoffs with two wins and 6-2 records. Oshawa, Aurora and Toronto Nomads round out the bottom of both championship divisions.
