With the Ontario Jr Blues XV Tryouts just over two weeks away, Rugby Ontario is excited to outline the season ahead.
Continuing to build off the successful foundation laid in 2018, The Ontario Jr Blues program will continue to adopt and expand its regional model of development. As seen last summer, the transition to regional teams at the U15 and U16 levels resulted in the following outcomes:
- Reduced travel time for players/parents
- Increased number of touch points for training
- Increased number of athletes engaged at the provincial level
- Enhanced inter-provincial competition
With this in mind, the Ontario Jr. Blues U17 and U18 programs will adopt a regional model this summer as well, ensuring consistency across age grades from top to bottom. Another benefit associated with a fully regional approach to the provincial program is the alignment it creates between the summer and winter programming. Moving forward, now all athletes engaged in the summer XV program, will have the opportunity to train year round with their coaches and peers through engagement in “The Program” Rugby Ontario’s off season winter training.
For the 2019 season the Ontario Jr. Blues program will run the following teams:
Ontario Blues West U18 Boys (2001)
Ontario West U18 Girls
Ontario Blues Central U18 Boys (2001)
Ontario Central U18 Girls
(2001 – 2002)
Ontario Blues West U17 Boys (2002)
Ontario Blues Central U17 Boys (2002)
Ontario Blues West U16 Boys (2003)
Ontario West U16 Girls
(2003 – 2004)
Ontario Blues Central U16 Boys (2003)
Ontario Central U16 Girls
(2003 – 2004)
Ontario Blues West U15 Boys (2004-05)

The Eastern Ontario Rugby Union (EORU) will continue to oversee the development of athletes in Eastern Ontario, while working hand in hand with Rugby Ontario and the Jr. Blues program. For more information on the EORU programs you can follow the link here.
